FOOD invites you into an amusing and, at times, bizarre world of consumption. Fueled by our very own appetite for more. What begins as a simple act of eating gradually transforms into a maniacal, almost mechanical ritual. We watch as the boundaries between desire and necessity blur, giving rise to something grotesque, surprising, and disturbingly hypnotic.
Through acrobatics and object manipulation, these witty circus performers create a
vivid physical language. One that questions not just their own, but perhaps even our
collective consumption habits – habits subtly shaped by desires that may not be
entirely our own.
Michael Zandl is an Austrian circus artist who graduated from Codarts Circus Arts in
Rotterdam in 2017. Since 2020, he has been associated with Korzo Theater in The
Hague as a resident artist. With Korzo’s support, Michael co-created ‘Sawdust
Symphony’, a performance that has been touring internationally since 2021.
Michael’s artistic approach combines absurdity and abstraction, fueled by a passion
for unusual scenarios and subtle humor, elements he finds powerful tools for
expressive storytelling. His latest project, FOOD, marks his debut as a director.
