What is beautiful, and what is ugly? What if Beauty is ugly, and the Beast is beautiful?
Every beautiful person hides inside a beast, and in every beast there is beauty.
Don’t forget: beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
“Whether you come from heaven or from hell, who cares,
O Beauty! Huge, fearful, ingenuous monster!”
(Charles Baudelaire, Hymn to Beauty)

Marco Pericoli and Irene Ferrara met while working as performers in several theatre and outdoor productions of the Arearea Company, choreographed and directed by Marta Bevilacqua and Roberto Cocconi. In addition to their roles as performers, they both experiment individually as authors, working and dancing together in the show “Fioriture autoritratte” (Self-Portrait Blooms). Beauty and the Beast is their second work as co-authors. They share Arearea’s poetics and express themselves through the language of contemporary dance and dance theatre, with a focus on considering urban and non-performance spaces as a scenic site to bring the performance to life.
